Nu ligger den första artikeln om gubbslemsprojektet uppe för review på International Journal of Feminist Technoscience.

Abstractet till “Follow the phlegm: Tracing the infinitesimal in male networks of power” lyder som följer:

In recent years, there has been a surge of interest in the work of Gabriel Tarde. Arguably, the theories he proposed – and methodologies he imagined – constitute a radical break with established theories of the ontology of social structures.

Taking its cue from this promise, this paper studies the logics that underpin the emergence of a particular male-dominated network of power (gubbslem in Swedish). Using a large data set from back-slapping patterns in the blogosphere coupled with ethnographic data, the text aims to show how the “becoming” of this network emanates from a myriad of infinitesimal processes, which cannot be reduced to being mere results of a certain social milieu.

Following a general introduction to the project, section two and three will outline the theory and method proposed by Gabriel Tarde some hundred years ago. Here, the presentation will roughly follow Bruno Latour in his recent endeavour to align Tarde with contemporary sociology. Section four will discuss the method, and section five the results, of the research in question. The paper is concluded with some notes on the practical uses of this body of theory, and on the operationalisation of similar projects in the future. 

Med andra ord är detta papper skrivet utifrån Gabriel Tardes tankar (såsom de populäriserats av Bruno Latour). Texten är alltså en genomgång av Tarde och hur han skiljer sig från Durkheim. Den är också en diskussion om hur kring hur den typ av “panspektrisk” data som skapas i bloggosfären kan användas för Tardiansk metod. En nedkortad version av pappret kommer att presenteras på höstens genuskonferens i Karlstad.

Journalen ifråga är relativt nystartad - verkar lovande, den är open access, och dessutom open peer review. Med andra ord kan vem som helst vara följa review-processen, att kommentera på artikeln. Så - ladda gärna ned, läs och kommentera på ovanstående sida.

Sitter nu med den andra gubbslemstexten, som skall presenteras på Deleuzekonferensen i Cardiff. Denna bygger vidare på ovanstående papper -  kommer att gå in närmare på hur man kan förstå gubbslemmet som en deleuziansk (abstrakt) maskin. Det andra pappret kommer därmed att hävda att man inte bara kan använda ordet “gubbslem” i metaforisk mening - typ “män är slemmiga”. Man kan även tänka att det bokstavligen är samma process bakom tillblivelsen av manliga nätverk, å ena sidan, och tillblivelsen av slemmiga substanser som slime mould, å den andra. (Hyfsat spekulativt…) Det kommer även att prata om hur man simulera denna abstrakta maskin in action - inte minst hur dess effekter är icke-linjära - genom mjukvaran StarLogo.
